TOPIC: LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS-PT5
THEME SCRIPTURE: “In my father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may also be.” – John 14:2-3
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Where did Jesus indicate that He is going?
- Will Jesus come back again to take us? Where will He take us?
What is the end of man? Are we just here, and once we die, it all ends? How can we tell whether there is life after death? No one has returned from the land of the dead to tell us what happens there except one—Jesus Christ. He died and rose again on the third day. He has tasted death and attests that there is life after death.
If the grave is not the end of man, then where are we going (our true destiny)?
C. S. Lewis (the oracular professor and a latecomer to Christ) stated, “It will be unreasonable for a fish that lives in water to complain about the wetness of water unless it was designed to live on dry land someday.” He further argued that “It will be unreasonable for man who lives in time to marvel at the way time flies, unless that man was designed to live in eternity someday.” Hence, Jesus pointed out, according to our theme scripture, that He was going back to the Father. He is going to prepare a place for us in the Father’s house. Then He added, “I will come again and receive you unto myself.”
Beloved, our end is to spend eternity with the Father and with Christ in heaven.
This is getting interesting, right?
But let’s consider this, precious one: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Heb 9:27). Eternity is our end, but judgment precedes it. Meaning, once a man dies, he transits to paradise or hell. The righteous are kept in paradise (Luke 23:43), while the unrighteous are kept in hell (Luke 16:22–23), awaiting final judgment.
Jesus is coming again, beloved. He is coming for a glorious church (or a glorious people) that is without spot and without wrinkle (Eph 5:27).
When He arrives, there’s going to be judgment before the great white throne of God. When Apostle John was given a glimpse of this judgment, he wrote, “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged, every man according to his works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death” (Rev 20:11–14).
Precious one, God has set eternity in our hearts (Ecc 3:11) and also as our destination.
Judgment awaits all of us. Heaven or the lake of fire are the two destinations, and “whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Rev 20:15). But you, the righteous, have a place with the Father. Remain blessed.
