TOPIC: OPEN MY EYES
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” — Psalm 119:18
PREPARATORY QUESTION
- What does it mean for God to open your eyes?
The psalmist’s prayer is strikingly simple: “Open my eyes.” He already has access to God’s law, yet he recognizes that access is not the same as understanding. There is a difference between seeing words and perceiving their depth.
This humility is essential. Scripture is not mastered by intellect primarily; it is illuminated by God. Without His help, even familiar passages can remain flat and distant. With His help, even a single verse can unfold layers of meaning that reshape how we think and live.
This aligns with A. W. Tozer’s insight: God is not silent within His Word. He actively speaks through it, making its power present across time. The issue is not whether God is speaking, but whether we are positioned to hear. Spiritual sight must be given, not assumed.
When we ask God to open our eyes, we acknowledge dependence. We move from control to surrender— from analyzing Scripture to being addressed by it. In that posture, the “wondrous things” begin to emerge: truth that convicts, promises that steady us, and wisdom that clarifies our path.
Many approach the Bible looking for quick answers. But God often offers something deeper— Himself. He reveals His character, His ways, and His purposes. The result is not just knowledge, but transformation.
Beloved, to see “wondrous things” requires more than time set aside; it requires a heart made ready. A teachable spirit turns routine reading into genuine encounter with God.
Key Takeaway
Spiritual understanding begins when we depend on God to open our eyes to His living Word.
Today, press in on God to open the eyes of your understanding. It is time to behold wondrous things in His word.
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
- Do I rely more on my own understanding or on God’s illumination when reading Scripture?
- When was the last time a passage deeply impacted or changed me?
- What might God want to show me that I have been overlooking?
PRAYER
Father, open my eyes to see the truth within Your Word. Guard me from approaching Scripture with pride or assumption. Give me a heart that is ready to receive and a mind that is attentive to Your voice. Reveal what I cannot see on my own, and let Your truth shape how I think, choose, and live. Speak, Lord—I am listening. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
