TOPIC: RUNNING WITH HORSES
THEME SCRIPTURE: “If you have run with footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses?” — Jeremiah 12:5
PREPARATORY QUESTION
1. How does God prepare His people for greater works ahead?
In the middle of his obedience to God, Jeremiah's life is threatened, and he laments. God’s answer to Jeremiah’s heartfelt lament is both unsettling and strengthening. Rather than offering comfort, the Lord challenges His weary prophet: “If you are tired now, how will you stand when the pace quickens?” This is not rebuke—it is recruitment. God is calling Jeremiah to a higher level of endurance and trust.
In divine logic, hardship is not punishment but preparation.
The betrayals of his hometown were the training ground for greater opposition from the nations ahead. As C.S. Lewis observed, “God whispers in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains”. The shout here to Jeremiah, and also you and I, is clear: “I am building resilience in you, says the Lord.”
Spiritual growth always happens at the edge of exhaustion.
God does not lower the standard to match our weakness; He lifts our strength to match His calling. The prophet’s struggle was real, but so was God’s intention— to make him a man capable of “running with horses.”
The test of maturity, then, is not whether we understand God’s ways, but whether we trust His training.
Precious one, faith that endures frustration (Jer. 12:1–4) and betrayal (Jer 12:6) must also be forged for the marathon of obedience. So, when you are frustrated in the midst of betrayal:
- Reframe your hardship: Instead of asking “Why me?” ask “What are You forming in me?”
- Train spiritually: Commit to a week of consistent prayer and Scripture reading—build endurance in the secret place.
- Run with grace: Support someone else facing difficulty; endurance grows stronger when shared.
Beloved, God’s question still echoes today: If ordinary trials make you faint, how will you stand when the spiritual race intensifies? Use every trial, hardship, challenge, and adversity to build capacity for the horse race ahead.
Remain blessed.

PRAYER
Lord, strengthen me for the race ahead. When I grow weary of small trials, remind me that You are preparing me for greater trust and deeper obedience. Teach me not to ask for easier paths but for stronger legs to run with horses. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
