TOPIC: PREPARING THE WAY FOR THE KING
THEME SCRIPTURE: “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple… says the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 3:1 )
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Who is this messenger to prepare the way?
God is always on the move, preparing a way where we see none. In Malachi 3:1, we are introduced to a messenger who will prepare the way for the coming of the Lord. This prophecy, though spoken centuries before Christ, points directly to the role John the Baptist would fulfill, preparing hearts to receive Jesus. But it also has a personal call for us today—we are called to heed the message and also to be messengers in our time.
**The mandate of the Messenger is “to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (Luke 1:16-17). The message of the coming King is loud and clear in our days. Jesus, the soon-coming King, will judge the world; this is the message of the moment. Are our lifestyles a proof that we have heeded to the message?**
In our lives, we are continually invited to prepare the way for God’s work. How do we do this? By aligning our hearts with His will, by living in obedience, by spreading the gospel message, and by reflecting God’s love in our daily interactions. The words of John Chrysostom remind us: “Let your actions prepare the way for God’s presence in your life, for it is not enough to hear His word, but to live it out daily.”
God’s messenger does not just speak; he lives the message. In love, the messenger of God shares the message, as Noah moved with compassion, warned his generation of the impending flood.
This is a powerful reminder that every moment we choose to reflect on His love, it helps clear the path for others to encounter Him. When we embody God’s truth, His light shines through us, dispelling darkness and offering hope.
As you go about your day this Lenten season, think about the areas where you can prepare the way for God. Are there places in your life that need His touch? Relationships to mend? Habits to change? People to share the gospel with? As we prepare the way for the Lord, we, too, become part of His larger plan to bring transformation to the world.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- Are there any areas of disobedience or reluctance where God is asking you to make way for Him?
- In what ways can you be a messenger of God’s love to those around you?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to be a faithful messenger, preparing the way for Your work in my life and the lives of others. Continue to open my heart to hear Your calling and give me the courage to live it out each day, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
