TOPIC: THE GLORY AND REVELATION LIGHT
THEME SCRIPTURE: “A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of Your people Israel.”- Luke 2:32
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What was said about baby Jesus when He was unveiled?
It is worth noting that when it came to the fulfilling of the law, Joseph and Mary ensured that the baby Jesus was circumcised (Luke 2:21; Lev 12:3) and that Mary had fulfilled the days of her purification (Luke 2:22). When the days of her [Mary] purification were over, Joseph and Mary brought the little baby Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, being the firstborn (Luke 2:23; Exo 13:2). They offered a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord (Luke 2:24; Lev 12:8), “Two turtledoves or two pigeons.”
Their sacrifice of two turtledoves or pigeons indicates that the couple [Joseph and Mary] were not wealthy.
Beloved, it is interesting that the performance of these rituals [in fulfilment of the law] brought about two powerful encounters with two people—righteous Simeon and prophetess Anna.
In Jerusalem, there was a righteous and devout man called Simeon. This man had received a promise from the Spirit of God that he would live to see the Lord’s Christ (Luke 2:25). This day that Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to present Him to the Lord was this promise fulfilled. What a privilege Simeon might have felt when he took baby Jesus into his arms. He could not help but bless God (Luke 2:28). Simeon went on to affirm that this life he was holding in his arms will be the glory of God’s people [Israel] but also a revelation light to the Gentles.
Thus, Jesus was going to be the honor of Israel but also the true light to the Gentiles in darkness (Luke 2:32).
Simeon had more to share. He had an ominous warning about the little child Jesus—“His life would be a challenge to many people in Israel and Mary also will experience pain and anguish.”
Precious One, Jesus is the glory of God’s people and the revelation light to everyone who desires to know God in His fullness. John the Baptist was a burning and a shinning lamp. He [Jesus] is a shinning and revelation light [ray]. He is the effulgence of the invisible God. He is greater than all. If you have Him, you have everything.
Over the years, this same Jesus has given hope to the hopeless, setting the captives free.
He has raised the poor from the dust and the beggar from the dunghill so that they could inherit thrones of glory. Notwithstanding, this Jesus has become a burden to the wicked and those who love darkness. Jesus is what the world needs and nothing more. Jesus is what you need, beloved, and nothing more. God bless you.
