TOPIC: LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS-PT4
THEME SCRIPTURE: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What is the true potential of the believer?
- Can we do all things?
When the time was drawing near for Jesus to go to the cross, He set out to go to Jerusalem from Galilee (Luke 9:51). As He often does, Jesus sent messengers ahead of Him. These messengers entered a Samaritan village purposely to prepare a place for the Master (Luke 9:52). When Jesus got to the village, He was not received by the people there (Luke 9:53). This infuriated His disciples so much that James and John (the sons of Thunder) made a proposal, saying, “Lord, will you want us to call fire to come down from heaven and consume them, as also Elijah did?” (Luke 9:54). When Jesus heard them, He sharply rebuked them and said, “You do not know what spirit you are of” (Luke 9:55).
Even though these disciples’ ebullition of fiery zeal was not Christ-like, how were they so confident that they could call down fire?
These disciples had gone out to preach with the authority of Jesus (Luke 9:1-2) and had seen what they could do with that authority (Luke 9:6). Beloved, inside the believer in Christ is God tabernacled. Also, as many as believed in Him, He gave them power (authority) to become sons of God (people who can act like God). According to our theme scripture, Apostle Paul, who had gone through so much and prevailed, confidently asserted, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Beloved in Christ, this is our true potential—we can do all things according to the power of Christ that works in us.
Precious one, what can we do? Through our lifelong union with the Holy Spirit of God, we have been supernaturally infused and energized with strength.
When and wherever we stand, we do so victoriously with his explosive power flowing through us. Isn’t this remarkable? What can we do? If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus dwells in us, then our mortal bodies have been quickened by that same Spirit who breathes life in us and through us (Rom 8:11). Whatever is dead that we touch receives life.
What is our true potential? Beloved, “These signs shall follow them that believe: IN MY NAME shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:17–18). Glory to God!
The critical question you need to ask yourself today is this: “What have I been doing with my true potential?”
The day the spirit of God came upon David, he became another man. When he visited his brothers at the battle front, he saw Goliath differently. He was the one who encouraged King Saul and his men (1 Sam 17:32), saying, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him (Goliath). He assured the King that he would take Goliath on easily. He knew his true potential. This is exciting. When he faced Goliath, David weighed him by saying, “You come to me with sword, spear, and shield; but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel" (1 Sam 17:45).
David knew how to count God’s strength as his.
Beloved, stop crying and rise up to your true potential. Stop looking for men’s help when you have the name of the Lord with you as a strong tower. Stop being timid because God lives in you. But start smiling, because when you go on your knees and employ the strength of God’s Spirit and His name, all things are possible. Remain blessed.
