TOPIC: WALK WORTHY OF THE LORD
THEME SCRIPTURE: “That you would walk worthy of God, who has called you unto His kingdom and glory” – 1 Thessalonians 2:12
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- What does it mean to walk worthy of the Lord?
True Christianity has a true blend of doctrine and conduct, faith and practice. Thus, how a believer of Christ acts stems from what he believes and what he or she believes informs his or her actions. Christianity is the way of life of God, and he who lives this life demonstrates God. In Antioch, the early believers were called Christians, not because of their doctrine but their conduct of love. This is why Apostle Paul, by the Spirit, is drawing our attention today to this important truth of walking worthy of the Lord.
The Apostle uses “walk worthy of the Lord” as a metaphor to express the kind of lifestyle or the daily living we (as people born of God) must live.
Paul, by this same statement: “walk worthy of the Lord” points out to us the principle of association. Thus, by the fact that we have become followers of Christ and His representative wherever we are, our conduct rubs on God and our reputation affects God’s reputation in this mundane world. The world does not see God but us. If the world would glorify our Father, who is in heaven, it will take the shinning character and conduct of the sons and daughters of the Most High.
Precious one, walk worthy of the Lord who has called you with an holy calling (2 Tim 1:9) by living a holy life.
The Lord our God is holy so we must be holy in all that we do (1 Peter 1:15-6). If we are His ambassadors in this world, holiness must characterize our daily living. So then, beloved, be very careful how you live, not being like those without understanding. But in all things, let the light of God’s word guide you to desire and make godly choices.
Walk worthy of the Lord, beloved, pleasing Him in everything you do (Col 1:10). Live for God and let His purpose be your purpose in life.
Many people live for different things including money and fame. Those who are worthy of God are those who choose to live in Him, with Him and for Him. they are fruitful to God. Beloved, be a fruit bearing branch in Christ (or results-producing member of the body of Christ). How? God is love, and he that loves knows God (1 John 4:7). The believer who loves God and his brother has fulfilled the law and the prophets. Therefore, love those who hate you and despitefully use you (Matt 5:44). Love those who call you enemy and maltreats you. Pray for them in secret and show them kindness when the opportunity arises. The God we serve causes His rain to fall on both the just and the unjust (Matt 5:45).
It is by the love of God you can truly change lives and reveal that you are truly a child of God.
Precious one, we can walk worthy of the Lord if we yield to His life, and mature in the rich experience of knowing God in His fullness. Remember, the endless love of Christ is already cascaded into our heart through the Holy Spirit who lives in us. If you truly believe that you have received God’s righteousness, then walk in it. If you believe that you are now a new creation in Christ, walk as a new man. As faith without practical works is dead, so Christianity without conduct is dead (or carnal). God bless you more.
