TOPIC: CAN MAN LIVE WITHOUT GOD?
THEME SCRIPTURE: “For God do know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:5
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Can mankind live independently of God?
- What will cause mankind to dishonour God, being unthankful also?
Precious One, what do you think about the question, "Can man live without God? With all the debates about Man, Science, and God, such a question seems difficult. For instance, according to Prof. Yuval Noah Harari (Professor of History, Hebrew University of Jerusalem) in his book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, history began when mankind invented gods, and history will end when mankind becomes gods. Further, in his book Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow, Prof. Harari argues that, with advancement in science, mankind will accomplish the ultimate: cure death. This new wave of getting rid of God or replacing God with science and money began with Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher who began the “God Is Dead” movement.
Precious One, one thing is true: you may call a rose flower dung, but it will still smell the same.”
There's been a quantum leap in science and knowledge. However, the question "Can man live without God?" remains relevant. Solomon was wiser, yet he was not able to find happiness in anything outside of God (Eccl 1:14). So he concluded, “For in much wisdom is much grief, and the one who increases in knowledge increases sorrow.” (Eccl 1:18). Outside of God, the wisest man's wisdom was unprofitable.
Precious One, in the Garden of Eden, man didn't know he was the most powerful, together with God. When the devil came, he lied to man that his dependence on God and His word was useless. “Disobey or rebel against God, and you will be like gods (Gen 3:4-5). Adam and Eve followed the devil's advice and became servants in the earth. Man's quest to be free of God began in Eden.
The first man didn't benefit from independence from God, and neither will we.
King David involved God in all his affairs (1 Sam 30:8; 2 Sam 2:1; 2 Sam 5:19). He knew that every life on earth begins without prior experience or lesson notes as a guide. Trial-and-error, speculations, and forecasts are ways mankind is surviving. As a result, kingdoms rise and fall, economies go up and come down, and man builds, but it never lasts. Also, this universe is so harmonious and beautiful that it must have a Creator, a grand architect. David, a man of war who brought the kingdom of Israel to its highest conquest, concluded, “The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statues of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandments of the Lord are pure, enlightening the eyes.” (Psalm 19:7-8).
Beloved, you don't need to be told; you need to boldly choose to live with God.
Without Him, we're just wanderers here. Without God, life has no worth, meaning, or hope. "Would you live your life without God?" God's word is asking. Remain blessed.
