TOPIC: BASK IN GOD'S PERFECT PEACE

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You.” – Isaiah 26:3KJV

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. How can we stay our minds on God?
  2. What is involved in trusting God to enjoy His perfect peace?

It will fascinate you to know that most people do not know what they really need in life if you should ask people around you. You will likely get answers like money, job, marriage or a relationship with God. All these are good. However, you will agree with me that all these are a means to something else. Men and women are looking for peace and safety (security) in this life and the life after. Money and material things promise peace and security and deliver less. We all know that not all those who have money can sleep soundly or are happy in this life.

However, in our theme scripture, the prophet of God makes a profound statement about those whose minds (thoughts and perspectives) are stayed (consumed, fixed and founded) on God. Such people will always have perfect peace.

The Hebrew rendition of the ‘perfect peace’ is shalom-shalom (double peace).

In other words, God can give you more than you are looking for in this life. Isn’t this superb?

Precious one, anyone whose mind is fixed on God trusts Him. To stay the mind on God, is to let your thoughts and perspectives be grounded and rooted in God and His word. It is to be fully persuaded by what God has said. For instance, Jesus was in a boat with his disciples and the storm arose, filling their boat (Mark 4:37). The storm was so terrible experienced fisherman like Peter was afraid they will sink, yet Jesus was peacefully asleep (Mark 4:38). He was fully persuaded that heaven cannot allow misfortune to happen to Him. Jesus rose from sleep and was surprised at the fear in the faces of His disciples. Jesus arose and rebuked the wind (Mark 4:39). Then, he questioned how come they had no faith in God at all (Mark 4:40).

Beloved in Christ, in this life there are too many things that would bombard your mind and stress your spirit, taking away your peace of mind.

But if you are fully persuaded that God is your Shepherd and as a result, you will have no need (Psalms 23:1), your case will always be different from the ordinary man. So, study God’s word to know His plans for you, meditate on them so they will become flesh and dwell in you, and the peace of God which passes all understanding will garrison your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Glory to God!

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. How real is the word of God to you to inform your thoughts and decisions daily?

CONFESSION

Thank you Precious Father, that You are the same yesterday, today and forever more. I confess this day that from henceforth I am relying on Your sure word, no matter what may come my way, because you can be trusted. Hallelujah
