TOPIC: TO LIVE IS CHRIST

THEME SCRIPTURE: Philippians 1:21

 PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. What are we supposed to live for in this life?
  2. How important is it for God’s people to live for Him?

Every life that hopes to realize anything meaningful must have a foundation upon which it rests, in addition to a supporting system, and a destination. The absence of these may engender a life that is not self-driven or going nowhere. It must also be noted that every life must live for something meaningful because we are day-by-day spending our lives, whether we are aware or not. But for what in return should we live our lives? Based on our perspectives in life, some are spending their lives in anticipation to get happiness someday. Others are hoping to get a name someday. Some live for more money, hoping that someday they will be considered rich.

Remember, the greatness of a man is in the course he lives for and the price he is willing to pay.

This is why Apostle Paul made a choice and said, ‘for me to live is Christ…’ (Phil 1:21). Thus, Christ Jesus is his efficient cause and author of his life. He is the one who gives him purpose, drive and also leadership in this life to do what he does. By that same statement, the Apostle was saying that Christ is the source and sustainer of his life, such that it is not so much he who lives but Christ living through him.

Precious one, we are sojourners on this earth. We must live every day of our lives as pilgrims. It is good to work for somebody. It is better to work for yourself but it is great to work for God or be an instrument in God’s hands.

Often, believers think that working for God means being a church leader or minister. That notion is not true. The church is a gathering of believers, purposely to strengthen one another but the real work is in the dark world. This is why two people can be employees of the same company; yet one will be working for God and the other will be working for a salary. The difference is profound. For instance, somebody wakes up every day and goes through all the motions to get to work. His motivation or primary aim for going to work is the salary he will get at the end of the month. He needs the salary. On the other hand, there is another colleague. He wakes up every day to go to the office (or workplace) with excitement, not because of the salary he will get at the end of the month. Rather, he sees his work as an opportunity to meet people and help others (colleagues in the workplace and clients) to find peace, purpose and hope in Christ. His work is a means to Christ’s end. Isn’t this glorious?

Precious One, it is time for you to reorient your perspective when it comes to your work. Your workplace is where God wants you to influence and affect lives positively.

It is a place you should let all know that you are born of God and a solution to hopeless cases. In this way, God can use you to help bosses whose marriages are crumbling and colleagues struggling with addictions. You are God’s instrument in your workplace so live for Christ. Hallelujah!

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. What is your reputation in your workplace and among your friends? What are you known for?
  2. How supportive are you of your work colleagues or friends regarding their personal lives?

CONFESSION

I affirm that my life is not mine. To God it belongs. As a result, I am yielding unto Him and His leading in my life. I see myself walking in the plans and purposes of God for me every day.  From today going forward, my life is being built up like the perfectly fitted stones of the temple. Glory to God. Hallelujah!
