TOPIC: PURPOSE OVER COMFORT

THEME SCRIPTURE: "And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem." — Luke 9:51 (KJV)

 

PREPARATORY QUESTION:

1. Will you remain committed to God’s purpose when the journey becomes uncomfortable?

 

 

Jesus knew exactly what awaited Him in Jerusalem. He knew there would be betrayal, suffering, and death. Yet when the time came, “He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.” Nothing could distract Him from fulfilling the Father’s will.

Jerusalem represented the difficult but necessary part of His assignment. It was the place of testing, but also the place of fulfillment. Jesus understood that His purpose was greater than His comfort.

As disciples of Christ, we too have our “Jerusalem”—those seasons when obeying God requires sacrifice, courage, and perseverance. We may enjoy victories along the way, but fulfilling God’s ultimate purpose will sometimes take us into places we would rather avoid.

Abraham had his Jerusalem when God asked him to offer Isaac. John the Baptist had his Jerusalem in prison, where his faith was tested. Their stories remind us that God’s purpose does not always come wrapped in comfort.

Beloved, do not abandon your assignment because the road becomes difficult. There may be pain, but there is purpose. There may be testing, but there will be triumph.

Jesus did not turn back. He set His face toward Jerusalem and finished what the Father sent Him to do.

Today, choose purpose over comfort. Strengthen your heart, remain steadfast, and keep moving toward what God has called you to do.

Don’t turn back. Your Jerusalem may be difficult, but it may also be where your greatest obedience and greatest glory are found.

PRAYER:

Precious Father, not my will, but Yours alone be done in my life. Give me the strength, courage, and tenacity to remain steadfast in Your purpose, even when the journey is difficult. In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen.
