TOPIC: WHEN HIS WORD IS FOUND

THEME SCRIPTURE: “When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes.” — 2 Kings 22:11

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Why will Josiah tear his clothes at the hearing of the words of the Law?

Josiah’s reforms began with a willing heart, but they deepened when something long neglected was rediscovered— the Word of God. During repairs to the temple, the Book of the Law was found, dusty and forgotten. When it was read aloud, Josiah was undone.

This was not casual listening. He [Josiah] didn’t skim the words or excuse himself from their weight. He allowed Scripture to confront him.

This Word of the Law revealed how far the nation had drifted, and instead of resisting conviction, Josiah responded with humility and repentance.

True renewal always begins here. Before God changes systems, structures, or surroundings, He speaks to hearts through His Word. And when we truly hear Him, something shifts within us. Comfort may come later— but first, clarity.

Josiah didn’t just hear the Word; he acted on it. He renewed the covenant, aligned the nation with God’s commands, and led the people back into obedience.

Revival burst forth when Josiah acted on the Word. Yeah, revival followed not because the Word was found, but because it was obeyed.

Beloved, in our own lives, peradventure God’s Word is rarely absent— but it is often. We may own Bibles, hear sermons, or read devotionals, yet still keep our obedience to Scripture at arm’s length. But when we allow the Word to search us, correct us, and guide us, transformation begins.

Precious one, today's takeaway from this devotional is this: Renewal begins when God’s Word moves from being available to being obeyed. If you allow Scripture to search your heart, God will use it to realign your life.

God still honors hearts that tremble at His Word. Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

  1. How will you evaluate your own obedience to God's Word?

PRAYER

Father, awaken my heart to Your Word. Remove every distraction, excuse, and defense that keeps me from hearing You clearly. Let Your truth convict me, shape me, and lead me into obedience. I want my life aligned with Your will. Speak, Lord—I am listening. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
