TOPIC: FROM PLOW TO MANTLE

THEME SCRIPTURE: “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” — Luke 9:62

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

1. Why is it a problem when one puts his hand to the plow and looks back?

When Elisha was about his father's farming business, and Elijah appeared there, and threw his mantle on him, he didn’t ask for time to consider. He burned the plow, slaughtered the oxen, and served the meal to his people. That was his resignation from the ordinary—and his consecration to the extraordinary. Elisha’s call wasn’t just a change of vocation— it was a death to self.

Contrast this with Jesus’ warning in Luke 9. Those who hesitate—who look back with longing or preserve backup plans—aren’t fit for kingdom work. Half-heartedness cripples discipleship.

Gregory the Great once wrote, “No sacrifice is perfect that is offered without the heart. He who follows the Lord must deny himself, not delay himself.” Elisha didn’t delay. He honored his family, closed the door to his past, and walked into the unknown with holy confidence.

Today, God still calls people to radical surrender—not always through fire and prophets, but through moments of decision: Will you follow Him completely? Will you walk away from comfort, security, and predictable patterns to say "Yes Lord" to His voice, "Yes Lord" to His calling, "Yes Lord  to His beckoning?

Beloved, your calling may not lead to prophetic ministry like Elisha’s, but it will require obedience, sacrifice, and unwavering trust.

Precious one, today, God is calling you to a higher devotion to His will for your life

Will you answer sincerely? And like Elisha, when you answer with your whole heart, God equips and honors that devotion.

Remain blessed

QUESTIONS TO HELP  YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. Have you truly “burned the plow” in your walk with Christ?
  1. What are you holding onto that competes with your calling?

PRAYER

Lord, I don't want to follow You with a divided heart. I receive courage to surrender all, to burn what ties me to a life of compromise, and to walk forward in total obedience. Use me fully for Your glory. In Jesus’  precious name, Amen.
