TOPIC: THE DANGER OF JUSTIFYING SIN

THEME SCRIPTURE: “Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers... will inherit the kingdom of God.”  —1 Corinthians 6:9

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Upon what basis can a saved Christian dare justify sin?

Paul pulls no punches here. In a world—and a church—quick to justify sin under the banner of freedom or identity, Paul reminds us: God’s kingdom has a moral boundary. Not everyone who claims to belong to Christ actually does (Matthew 7:21). Deception is a real threat—especially when it masks itself in half-truths.

The Corinthian church had begun to excuse immorality, even allowing their culture to redefine righteousness. Paul confronts that drift.

Sin, left unchecked, disqualifies. But this passage isn’t just a warning—it’s a gospel-soaked reminder of God’s power to transform.

Paul doesn’t end with, “You are sinners.” He says, “That is what some of you were. But you were washed… sanctified… justified” (1 Cor 6:11). The gospel changes people. Grace doesn’t excuse sin; it empowers us to leave it behind us.

Augustine, once bound in sexual sin, confessed after his conversion: “I was held fast, not by iron, but by the pleasures of sin.” Yet God’s grace broke those chains. What once defined us no longer has the final word.

God calls His people to "Come out from among them and be separated,... Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you" (2 Cor 6:17), says the Lord. God is calling you today, precious one, to live a changed life—not to earn salvation but because you’ve been saved. Beloved, to continue in sin is to reject the very transformation at the heart of your salvation. And there's no place in the kingdom of God for such.

Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD

  1. Are there areas in your life where you’re justifying sin instead of repenting from it?
  1. Do you believe the gospel can truly transform every part of your life—including your desires?
  1. Who do you need to remind today: “You were washed… sanctified… justified”?

PRAYER

Lord, thank You that the gospel doesn’t just forgive—it transforms. Help me not to justify what You died to free me from. Let my life be living proof that Your grace changes everything. Keep me from deception, and anchor me in the truth that holiness is Your desire and design for me. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
