TOPIC: YOUR BODY IS NOT YOUR OWN
THEME SCRIPTURE: “You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” —1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV)
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- If our bodies are not our own, then who really owns them?
Paul continues his confrontation of Corinthian compromise by addressing a deeper issue: ownership. In a culture much like ours— where personal autonomy and “my body, my choice” thinking reigned —Paul offers a radical counterpoint: Your body is not your own.
The body, Paul says, is for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body (1 Cor 6:13). Not just the soul or spirit—but the physical body matters to God. So much so that He raised Jesus bodily from the dead and will raise us too (1 Cor 6:14).
What we do with our bodies reveals who we believe we belong to. In Corinth, sexual immorality was widespread—even normalized. Paul exposes it not just as a moral issue but as a spiritual one. To sin sexually is not merely a private failure— it is a distortion of union with Christ Himself (1 Cor 6:15–17).
Early church father John Chrysostom once said, “Nothing is so injurious to the soul as unchastity, and nothing so exalts it as purity.”
Purity is not prudishness. It’s a proclamation that Jesus owns us entirely. We were bought—ransomed—not with silver or gold but with His precious blood (1 Peter 1:18–19).
Beloved, to live as though we belong to ourselves is to reject the Lordship of Christ. To honor God with your body is to declare with every choice: “Jesus is Lord here too.”
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
- Do you see your body as belonging to you—or to God?
- In what ways are you honoring God—or dishonoring Him—with your physical life?
- How would your choices change if you lived daily with a sense of being“bought with a price”?
PRAYER
Lord, I surrender my body to You. You created me, redeemed me, and dwell in me. Help me honor You not only with my words, but with every part of my life—including how I treat this body You’ve given. Strengthen me to flee compromise and live as one who belongs wholly to Christ. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
