TOPIC: GOD LIFTS AND ALSO HUMBLES
THEME SCRIPTURE: “The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.” —1 Samuel 2:7–8
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
1. Does it mean that no matter how hard a man works, it is God who will lift him up?
In her praise, Hannah declares a profound truth: God is sovereign over the rise and fall of people, over wealth and poverty, over honor and obscurity. These words echo throughout Scripture (Luke 1:52; James 4:10) and remind us that God’s justice isn’t passive— it’s active. He doesn’t merely observe the world’s inequalities; He enters in, reverses them, and reveals His righteousness.
The world often values power, wealth, and fame. But God lifts up the humble, the broken, the ones bowed down in the dust.
Yeah, God lifts up the humble who turn to Him. It was true for Hannah, a once-barren woman mocked by others. It was true for David, a forgotten shepherd anointed king. It was true for Mary, a poor village girl chosen to bear the Messiah. And it remains true for us today.
God’s promotion is not based on human merit but on His purpose.
Beloved, God brings down the proud and exalts the humble—not for their glory, but for His. As Augustine once wrote, “It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as sons of God.”
Precious one, God’s economy is upside-down compared to ours: greatness comes through humility, strength is found in weakness, and the way up begins with bowing down. Are you trusting His timing and His lifting, or are you striving for self-exaltation? Beloved, "... humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time" (1 Peter 5:6).
Remain blessed.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD
- In what areas of life am I tempted to exalt myself rather than trust God's promotion?
- How am I humbling myself today before God and others?
- Can I rejoice in God's timing, even when I'm still “in the dust”?
PRAYER
Father, You lift up the humble and bring down the proud. Help me to trust in Your perfect justice and timing. When I feel forgotten or overlooked, remind me that You see me. Teach me not to chase my own promotion but to walk in humility, trusting that You will exalt me in due time. May my life bring honor to You alone. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
