TOPIC: JESUS’ REIGN IS ETERNAL

THEME SCRIPTURE: “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”Genesis 49:10

 PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Is Jesus truly reigning in your life?
  2. Are there areas of your life that you have not fully yielded to God?

Throughout history, leadership has been the catalyst for the rise and fall of nations, yet human rulers remain flawed—marked by corruption, instability, and mortality (Psalm 146:3-4). Rulers come and go, empires rise and fall, and even the best leaders eventually fail to meet the expectations of those they govern. Human existence and history re-echoes the need for a just, unchanging leader with unwavering integrity; this has and will always elude us as long as we search in all the wrong places. This perfect and eternal leadership is found only in Jesus Christ, the King of kings, whose reign is established in righteousness and will never end (Revelation 19:16,  Isaiah 9:7).

In our focus text, Jacob, the seed of Abraham who bore 12 children, established the 12 tribes of the nation Israel and is old and about to die. He gathers all his children and inspired by the Spirit of God tells them “…what shall happen to you in days to come – Genesis 49:1” Inspired by the Spirit of prophecy he sees into the reign of the promised Messiah and tells Judah “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until He to whom it belongs shall come: and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples – Genesis 49:10.” Simply put, One will be born from the line of Judah who shall reign forever and all people shall recognize and acknowledge His kingship.

Jacob’s prophetic blessing over Judah pointed to a divine promise – one that would be fulfilled in Christ Jesus.

This prophecy, finding its ultimate realization in Christ Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:5), emphasizes Jesus’ eternal reign, established not by conquest but by love, justice, and redemption. Jesus’ authority extends to all nations, and one day, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that He is King of kings and Lord of Lords –Philippians 2:10-11. Hallelujah!

Dearly beloved in Christ, as we reflect on this promise during the Lenten season, we must recognize that Jesus is not just the King of Judah but of all creation and also in our hearts. His rule calls us to fully surrender and obey.

God’s plan for our lives will only be fulfilled in Christ Jesus when we submit to His sovereign reign

This season also calls us to re-examine our hearts in the light of scriptures and to realign our hearts with God’s purpose, trusting in the eternal reign of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
