TOPIC: THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION
THEME SCRIPTURE: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him.”– Ephesians 1:17
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- How well and appropriately do you know Jesus Christ?
- Did you know that your knowledge of who Jesus is affects your way of worship?
The advancement of technology has immersed us in an unprecedented deluge of information on diverse subjects, establishing our era as the recognized information age and as accurately predicted in the Bible (Daniel 12:4). Unfortunately, a significant portion of this information overflow is deemed inappropriate or inaccurate, with certain entities actively propagating misinformation. In much the same way, within the Christian landscape, there is a constant struggle with an inundation of information from both external and internal sources, all attempting to discredit Christ Jesus and His message.
In our pursuit of a deeper understanding of Jesus and a more appropriate relationship with Him, it is imperative to be mindful that we will encounter both accurate and inaccurate knowledge.
Essentially, if you lack a proper understanding of Jesus, it significantly impacts the way you worship.
In our text for today, Paul reflects on his prayers for the Ephesian believers, expressing a continuous intercession for them. He prays “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him - (Ephesians 1:17-18).” Specifically, he desires that their hearts be enlightened, enabling them to grasp the hope of their calling and the rich inheritance awaiting them as saints. Paul's prayer, which is the Spirit's desire, is profound, aiming for the Ephesian believers to receive divine wisdom and revelation in their pursuit of knowledge about God. He underscores that comprehension of Scripture, whether through reading or preaching, occurs through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
He provides the understanding and inspiration. Without this spiritual insight, Scripture remains a mystery.
Dearly beloved in Christ Jesus, we are daily required as Christians to consistently feed our minds with the knowledge of God as we worship Him. Paul makes this his great pursuit when he affirms in Philippians 3:10 “that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.” There is every need for us to be discerning as we discuss the scriptures privately and publicly and as we listen to sermons. It takes the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to discern from the plethora of information available to us what right knowledge about God is and what is not. May God help us as we journey through 2024 to discern and avoid that which is an argument and an opinion against the knowledge of Christ Jesus, Amen.
