TOPIC: HE WHO IS BLESSED, IS BLESSED
THEME SCRIPTURE: “And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? Where is he that has taken venison, and brought it to me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yea, and he shall be blessed.” – Genesis 27:33
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Why did Isaac tremble exceedingly?
- Isaac blessed someone he was not sure. Why did he affirm that the person will definitely be blessed?
Isaac was in his latter years. He needed to hand over the family blessing to one of his sons. Isaac was aware that the family blessings with which God had graced Abraham and his family passed on by birthright. Hence, Isaac sought to put the blessing on Esau, his firstborn. However, God had said of Isaac’s children, “…the elder shall serve the younger” (Gen 25:23).
It is incredible to notice that, though Isaac was rich in cattle, servants, and gold, none of his children were interested in his wealth.
Both Esau and Jacob were interested in one thing—the word of blessing from their father. They knew something, which is this: “Material wealth is not comparable to divine blessing.” It is one thing to have wealth (which can disappear under certain circumstances and during a crisis), but it is another thing for your person to be an embodiment of blessing. It is one thing to have a blessing, but it is another to be a blessing. Isaac blessed Jacob, and according to our theme scripture, that was not Isaac’s plan. He trembled exceedingly when Isaac, being blind, realised he had blessed someone other than Esau. Though Isaac blessed someone else, he concluded, “Yea, and he shall be blessed.” When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceedingly bitter cry. He entreated Isaac, saying, “Bless me, even me also, O my father” (Gen 27:34). This is how badly Esau needed the word of blessing, not silver or gold.
Beloved, our generation seems to have lost sight of the word of blessing and is focusing on material blessings.
Having material blessings is good. But being a carrier of God’s blessings makes you a dispenser of divine blessings. And you, precious one, are blessed with faithful Abraham (Gal 3:9). Is it not written in the Holy Scriptures that, “And if you are Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise” (Gal 3:29)? You are blessed and can’t be cursed. Irrespective of your bank account size or academic background, you are blessed beyond measure. Whoever you bless is blessed. Whoever you curse is cursed because you are Christ’s.
This is why you don’t need to be afraid of men or the devil. None of them is a factor in your abundant life equation.
Never pray to God to bless you; He did already in Christ. Learn to affirm that you are blessed and destined to be a blessing to your generation, to the glory of God. Hallelujah!
