TOPIC: CHOOSE: ILLUSION OR REALITY?
THEME SCRIPTURE: “And the serpent said unto the woman, you shall not surely die: for God knows that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:4-5
PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:
- Was the serpent right that the fruit will make men gods?
- Why did God restrain man from the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil?
It does not exist—freedom that has no boundary. The thought of having freedom to do anything and everything is an illusion. No one can do anything and everything, including God. God is truth; He can’t lie. God is restrained by His righteousness; He is unable to do evil. God is obligated by His justice; He can’t pardon sin without a price being paid. The list can go on and on. Because of who He is, God can't do certain things.
In the Garden of Eden, heirdom was given to the man.
Humanity was offered the liberty to exercise dominion over God’s creation (Gen 1:26-28). This dominion at creation had its boundaries: “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it. For in the day that you eat thereof, you shall surely die” (Gen 2:16–17). Life was great until the devil came on the scene (Gen 3:5) to offer them an illusionary freedom—being like God (knowing everything and capable of doing everything). It sounded attractive, but it didn't exist.
By jumping into a world of illusory assurances of possessing all things, they lost their God-designed heirdom.
Precious one, when heirdom is lost, man’s exercise of dominion becomes demonic. Therefore, oppressions, manipulations, competition, war, and cheating characterise our interactions with one another. This is why we seek peace, but we do not find it. Man seems to think that by becoming gods (Homo Deus), we will find ultimate fulfillment and joy. We have removed God from our lives, homes, and schools because it will make us feel free. We have attempted to kill certain vocabularies, such as “sin”, because hearing them raises boundaries for our freedom. We have made evil look attractive, and good look queer, to blur the boundaries between the two. The sacredness of life, sexuality, etc. has been thrown into the dustbin. So, we no longer value sexual purity and the pricelessness of human life.
We seem to think that the ultimate is in the land of the “boundless freedom”. But that is an illusion, and the loser is the one who pursues it.
Brethren, freedom has boundaries, and the ultimate can be found in Christ alone. Being in Christ means being out of the world. You can’t have both. God brought us out, so He might bring us in (Deut 6:23). Fresh water and salty water cannot flow from the same source. Living within boundaries is necessary. This ultimate we are looking for can only be found in Jesus, Son of the Living God, who has been appointed heir of all things (Heb 1:2). Having lost our inheritance from the Fall, we can regain it only by joining our lives with that of Jesus. Are you a one who hasn’t surrendered his life to Christ? Turn to Him. Are you a man in Christ? Abide in Him. This is the only way to restoration, liberty, and the hope of glory. But the lukewarm will He spew out of His mouth (Rev. 3:16). God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:
- Is your life within the boundaries of the word of God?
- Are you pressing on day by day to remain with the boundaries of the liberty which is in Christ Jesus?
CONFESSION
Thank you Father, for the liberty which I have obtained in Christ Jesus. I acknowledge that this liberty and the grace of my Lord Jesus does not permit me to do anything but what you have instructed, commanded and ordained. I have chosen to be with Jesus and in Him I remain all my days. Glory Hallelujah!
