TOPIC: SHARING IN HIS SUFFERING LOVE

THEME SCRIPTURE: “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to His disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.” – Matthew 26:26

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

1.     What is the Lord’s supper?

2.     What is its significance to the believer today?

The evening before Good Friday, Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples. It was at this supper that Christ first celebrated the Lord's Supper. Eucharist, Sacrament of Communion, and Covenant Meal are just a few of the names that have been used to refer to the Lord's Supper. Over the years, varying views on the Lord’s Supper have brought about divisions within the body of Christ. Concerns about the symbolic significance of the Lord's Supper's elements have arisen many times among believers. Are they to be taken as the real body of Christ or to be viewed as symbols or witnesses to grace?

Shouldn't the Lord's Supper (the new covenant in His blood) be seen more as a Covenant Meal, to be observed or eaten in faith until He comes, dear one?

Jesus took the bread and blessed it. He then broke it and gave it to His disciples with this instruction: Take, eat, this is my body’ (Matt 26:26). Then He took the cup and gave thanks. He gave the cup to them, saying, ‘Drink all of it. For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shared for many for the remission of sins’ (Matt 26:27). Jesus referred to the bread as His body, which is broken for us (1 Cor 11:24), which body He later designated as His Church (His bride).

With the cup, He meant “Covenant and Forgiveness”, fulfilling these scriptures: Exodus 24:8; Isaiah 53:12.

Jesus' words at the Last Supper represent and communicate a vital truth, Precious One. He took the bread, broke it, and gave it. And then he did the same thing with the cup, representing his willingness to sacrifice his life for the sins of his people. Just as He laid down His life for us freely, ought we not to do the same, pledging ourselves to the death for Him?

Therefore, partaking in the communion is not just a memorial. It should also be our commitment to share in His suffering love until He comes.

Precious One, you are His body; treat yourself with all sacredness, living purely for His glory. You have His life; live like Him so Jesus will be revealed in you. Glory to Jesus!

QUESTION TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

1. What is your assessment of your commitment to Christ these days?

CONFESSION

I confess that Christ has been wounded for my transgressions, and He was bruised for my iniquity. The chastisement of my peace was also laid on Him. I affirm that by His stripes I am healed of all infirmities. Hallelujah!
