TOPIC: THE SACRED RHYTHMS OF SEASONS

THEME SCRIPTURE: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… He has made everything beautiful in its time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11, NIV)

PREPARATORY QUESTIONS:

  1. Why must we appreciate the seasons of life and also seize the opportunity each season brings?

God designed creation to pulse with rhythm—day and night, seedtime and harvest, work and rest. Yet we rebel, burning midnight oil to chase productivity, trading sleep for screens, and mistaking busyness for purpose.

Solomon’s wisdom pierces our illusion: Life is not a race to outrun limits but a dance to embrace seasons.

Jesus modeled this, laboring intensely by day and withdrawing to pray (Luke 5:16) in Gethsemane by night (John 18:1-2).

When we defy divine rhythms, we trade fruitfulness for fatigue, sacredness for stress.

Electric lights let us work 24/7, but our souls wither under endless day. Dallas Willard warned, “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day.” Burnout, anxiety, and fractured relationships are the tax we pay for ignoring God’s “time to rest.” A tree cannot bear fruit all year-round; neither can we. To reject dormancy—seasons of prayer, stillness, healing—is to reject the God who “gives His beloved sleep” (Psalm 127:2).

Jesus said, “While it is day, we must work”—but He also slept in storms (Mark 4:38) and let His body rest in a tomb.

Seasons are not about inactivity but obedience.

Lent teaches us to surrender our calendars to God’s sovereignty. What if your present “night” is not a delay but a divine incubation?

Beloved, how are we going to improve in aligning our lives with God’s seasons for our lives?

First, what is your current rhythm like? Audit Your rhythm. Write down your weekly schedule. Take note of the hours you don’t conform to your daily rhythms. Ask God for the strength to be disciplined.

Additionally, set a “Tech Curfew”. Social media and phone scrolling is one habit that takes our time, such that work hours are now becoming leisure hours. Silence screens 1 hour before bed. Read Psalm 4:8 instead: “In peace I will lie down and sleep.”

Lastly, observe Sabbath moments. There are times it may seem God has paused you. He has caused all your activities to come to a standstill. It may be that He wants you to take a break and re-look at your spiritual or physical health.

Don’t cry just because God has put a pause on your plans. Rather, see a reason in the inactive moments. Pray, fast or just rest because the next journey is long.

You are not a machine; you are a garden. Storms, droughts, and winters are not failures—they’re part of God’s cultivation. As seasons shift, remember: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Your dormancy today may be preparing roots for tomorrow’s harvest. Walk in rhythm with the One who ordained time itself.

God bless you more.

QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU MEDITATE ON THE WORD:

  1. What would you say is the season in which you are?
  2. How are you responding to the season in which you are right now?

PRAYER

Father, forgive me for racing past Your rhythms. Teach me to trust Your seasons—to work with passion, rest without guilt, and wait without fear. Where I’ve worshipped productivity, please give me the courage to kneel. Make my life a testament to Your perfect timing. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
