TOPIC: STRENGTH PERFECTED

THEME SCRIPTURE:  "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." - 2 Corinthians 12:9.

 

 

PREPARATORY QUESTION

1. What weakness have you been hiding from God instead of bringing to him as the very place his power wants to show up?

 

 

Paul asked God three times to remove a "thorn in the flesh." Three direct, specific requests — and three times, God's answer wasn't removal. It was a different kind of provision entirely: grace sufficient for the thorn to remain, and power that operates best precisely where human strength runs out. This is not the answer most of us are praying for. We want the obstacle gone. God, often, is more interested in meeting us inside it.

This is one of the more counter intuitive truths in Scripture: God's power isn't primarily activated by our competence — it's revealed by our insufficiency. If we could accomplish what he's called us to through our own strength, there would be little room to distinguish his power from our talent. But when the assignment exceeds our capacity, and something still gets accomplished, the only reasonable explanation left is that something beyond us showed up.

This should change how we relate to our own limitations. We tend to view weakness as disqualifying — the thing that proves we're not ready, not capable, not enough. Paul's response is the opposite: he boasts in his weaknesses, because they're the precise location where Christ's power rests on him. Not despite the weakness. Through it.

If you're waiting to feel strong enough before you move forward in what God's called you to, you may be waiting for a qualification the Kingdom doesn't actually require. Your insufficiency was never the disqualifier. It may be the very design.

PRAYER

Lord, thank you that your power is made perfect not in my strength, but in my weakness. Forgive me for hiding what I feel unqualified to bring you. Meet me in my insufficiency, and let your strength be unmistakably evident in what I cannot do alone. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
